Rapid Prototyping is the process of creating physical objects from computer generated CAD program that a prototype machine can build a 3D prototype out of plastic or resin. Rapid Prototyping was first used in the 1980s. Rapid Prototyping is used to produce models and prototype parts. Rapid Prototypes suit a range of applications and are even used to manufacture small quantity production parts. In recent years Rapid Prototype technology has become an essential part of 3D CAD Modeling and Design Engineering. The Prototyping Process uses CAD models and creates cross sections then creates a physical path and outputs plastic or resin. The build platform is then lowered and the next layer of the prototype is created until the prototyping process is complete. Rapid Prototyping generally uses additive fabrication, in which material is added until the 3D model is complete. Additive manufacturing is extremely versatile because of its ability to create almost any geometry even parts that could not be commercially created with processes such as injection molding. There are different processes that can be used for Rapid Prototyping:
- Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM): layer by layer a physical 3D model is build up with melted plastic that comes out a nozzle.
- Stereolithography (SLA): uses a laser beam to harden a polymer fluid layer by layer to build up the physical 3D model.
- Laminated Object Modeling (LOM): Physical sections are build from layers of paper or plastic. These sections are glued together to build up the prototype. The final product looks like it is made of wood.
- Selective Laser Sintering (SLS): A laser beam melts plastic powder or metal powder layer by layer to build up the 3D model. The final has a rather rough surface.
The standard interface between CAD software and rapid prototyping machines is the STL file format. 3D-PrintingService.nl uses the FDM process to build 3D models, prototypes and scaled models. This process has proven to be a very reliable system that produces strong and detailed functional models. The 3D prototypes can often be shipped within 24-48 hours. Because of our assessment 3D-PrintingService.nl can provide you with perfect 3D prototypes very fast!
